A Poem by Langston Hughes
I first read this poem when I was only in third grade and my class and I were choosing poems to recite for our parents. It is a beautiful poem written by an outstanding African American poet named Langston Hughes, who lived during the time of racial pride in the United States of America. I will post a biography of him sometime during the poetry-a-week program. He was a really amazing person and poet. Anyways, I hope you like this poem just as much as I do every time I hear it!

Freedom
By Langston Hughes
There are words like freedom
Sweet and wonderful to say
Oh my heart sings,
freedom rings
All day,
Everyday
There are words like liberty,
that almost make me cry
If you had known what I know,
you would know why
