Poem: We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks

Hi Readers!

I first read this poem a couple months ago, and found it very interesting. It may seem simplistic or even confusing at first, but if one takes the time to read over it multiple times, they can see the true meaning behind it. I was actually quite surprised by the amount of depth hidden in this rather short poem. Now, I'm not going to go ahead and just tell the meaning to you, but if you've got any thoughts or opinions on it, please feel free to share them right here at Reading Soup. Hope you enjoy the poem!

We Real Cool
By Gwendolyn Brooks

THE POOL PLAYERS.
SEVEN AT THE GOLDEN SHOVEL.
We real cool. We
Left school. We

Lurk late. We
Strike straight. We

Sing sin. We
Thin gin. We
Jazz June. We
Die soon.
